Early Life and Career

Juan Pablo Forner began his career after finishing his studies at the University of Salamanca. He became a lawyer in Madrid in 1783. During this time, he started to write a lot.

He often used different pen names, which are fake names writers use. Some of his pen names included Tome Cecial, Pablo Segarra, and Silvio Liberio.

His Writings and Debates

Forner was famous for getting into many heated arguments with other writers of his time. He debated with people like Vicente Antonio García de la Huerta and Tomás de Iriarte y Oropesa. His writings were very strong and critical. Because of how fierce his arguments were, he was eventually told he couldn't publish any more controversial pamphlets.

After this, he was moved to a new legal job in Seville. This was a way to calm things down.

Later Career and Legacy

Even though he was known for his sharp and sometimes harsh satirical writings, Forner was also a very smart scholar. One of his important works is Oración apologética por la España y su mérito literario (1786). This book showed his deep knowledge and was a strong defense of Spain's literary achievements.

Another important work, published after his death, was Exequias de la lengua castellana. This book also showed how smart and knowledgeable he was about the Spanish language.
