Juan Domingo de Borja y Doncel was an important person who lived a long time ago, around the 1300s. He was the father of someone very famous: Pope Callixtus III, who became a leader of the Catholic Church. Juan Domingo was also known as the Lord of La Torre de Canals, which was a special title for a powerful landowner. He belonged to a well-known family called the Borja family.

Life and Work

Juan Domingo, also known as Domènec, became very wealthy in a city called Xàtiva. He made his money by trading goods, especially sugar. His father was Domènec I de Borja, and his mother's name was Caterina.

In 1375, Juan Domingo was mentioned in an official document as a citizen of Xàtiva. This shows he was an active and recognized member of his community.

Later, in 1404, King Martin of Aragon gave Juan Domingo an important job. He was made the Sobreguarda, which meant he was in charge of protecting the borders of the Kingdom of Castile. This was a big responsibility, showing the king trusted him.

In 1408, Juan Domingo's son, Alfons de Borja, who would later become Pope Callixtus III, gave his father the power to collect money from a special payment called a censor in a place called Vall de Pego. This shows how his family was growing in power and influence.
