He grew up there and later earned a degree in Protocol and Institutional Relations. He studied at Camilo José Cela University.
Political Career Highlights
Moreno started his political journey at a young age. He joined the People's Party, a major conservative party in Spain.
Becoming a City Councillor (1995–1997)
In 1995, when he was 25, Moreno was elected as a city councillor in Málaga. He was in charge of Youth and Sport for the city government. He also led the Municipal Board for the Campanillas and Puerto de la Torre districts. A year later, he became the president of the New Generations of the People's Party in Andalusia.
Serving in the Andalusian Parliament (1997–2000)
In 1997, at 27, he became a Member of Parliament for Málaga. He spoke for the People's Party group on youth issues. He also became the national president of New Generations. This role involved coordinating the party's regional and local policies.
Member of the Spanish Parliament (2000–2011)
Moreno served as a national deputy in the Spanish Parliament for several terms. He represented the Cantabria area from 2000 to 2004. Later, he represented Málaga from 2007 to 2011. During this time, he worked on commissions related to science, technology, and social affairs.
President of Andalusia (2019–Present)
In the 2018 regional elections in Andalusia, Juanma Moreno led the People's Party. His party won 26 seats in the parliament. The Spanish Socialist Party won more seats (33), but they did not have enough to form a government alone.
Moreno's party formed an agreement with another party, Ciudadanos, which had 21 seats. They also received support from Vox, which had 12 seats. With this support, Juanma Moreno was elected President of Andalusia. He became the first conservative president of the region in Spain's modern democracy.
In 2022, new elections were called. In the 2022 autonomous elections, the People's Party, led by Moreno, won a large victory. They secured 58 seats, giving them an absolute majority. This meant they could govern Andalusia without needing support from other parties.
Personal Life
In September 2006, Juanma Moreno married Manuela Villena. They have three children together.
