Jubril Martins-Kuye (born August 16, 1942 – died January 17, 2021) was a Nigerian politician. A politician is someone who works in government. He first studied in Nigeria and then in the United States. He became an accountant before he started working in politics.
Martins-Kuye was a member of the Social Democratic Party. He also served as a senator. A senator is a lawmaker who represents a state or region. Later, he joined the United Nigeria Congress Party. In 1999, he tried to become the governor of Ogun State for the People's Democratic Party, but he did not win.
After that, President Olusegun Obasanjo made him the Minister of State for Finance. He held this job from 1999 to 2003. In 2010, he became the Minister of Commerce and Industry. He worked in the government of Acting President Goodluck Jonathan until 2011.

Early Life and Education
Jubril Martins-Kuye was born on August 16, 1942. His hometown was Ago Iwoye in the Ogun State of Nigeria.
He went to the University of Ibadan from 1965 to 1968. There, he studied sociology. Later, he studied economics at Harvard Business School in the United States. He finished his studies there in 1983. After his education, Martins-Kuye became a qualified Chartered Accountant. This means he was an expert in managing money for businesses.
Political Journey
Martins-Kuye started his political career as a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP). During this time, he served as a senator in Nigeria.
Later, he joined another political group, the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP). This was near the end of the time when Sani Abacha was in charge of the country.
In 1999, he wanted to become the governor of Ogun State. He ran for this position with the People's Democratic Party (PDP). However, he was not elected governor.
Working with Presidents
In June 1999, Jubril Martins-Kuye was given an important job. President Olusegun Obasanjo appointed him as the Minister of State for Finance. This means he helped manage the country's money. He held this role until June 2003.
During his time as Minister of Finance, he shared good news. In July 2002, he announced that Nigeria's economy was growing well. The World Bank estimated that the country's economy grew by 4% each year. This was the fastest growth in ten years.
Minister for Commerce and Industry
In March 2010, Jubril Martins-Kuye was chosen for another big role. Acting President Goodluck Jonathan nominated him to be the Minister of Commerce and Industry. This job involves helping businesses and trade in the country.
He officially started this new role on April 6, 2010. When he took office, he spoke about how important it was to spend government money wisely. He wanted to make sure that money was used for projects that would directly help people's lives. He believed that government spending should improve how people live.
Later Years and Passing
Jubril Martins-Kuye finished his work as a minister in 2011. He passed away in his hometown of Ago Iwoye on January 17, 2021.
