Judith Rosemary Locke Chalmers (born October 10, 1935 – died May 21, 2026) was a much-loved English television and radio presenter. She started her career at a young age, broadcasting for the BBC when she was just a teenager. Over the years, Judith presented many different shows, becoming a familiar face and voice to millions.

She was especially famous for hosting the popular ITV travel series Wish You Were Here...? This show helped people dream about their next holidays from 1974 to 2003. Judith also appeared on other well-known programs like Celebrity Antiques Road Trip and Good Morning Britain. In 1994, she received an OBE, which is a special award from the British King or Queen for her contributions.

Judith Chalmers' Early Years

Judith Rosemary Locke Chalmers was born on October 10, 1935. Her birthplace was Gatley, a town in Stockport, England. She grew up nearby in Cheadle.

Her father, David, worked as an architect. He passed away when Judith was 17 years old. Her mother, Millie, was a medical secretary. Judith also had a younger sister named Sandra Chalmers. Both sisters attended Withington Girls' School, a school in Manchester.

Starting Her Broadcasting Journey

Judith began her exciting journey in broadcasting very early. She was only 13 years old when she started working for the BBC. She was chosen for a show called Children's Hour in the BBC's Northern region. Her sister, Sandra, also appeared on this show.

Judith presented many programs from Manchester. One of these was Children's Television Club. This show later grew into the famous children's program Blue Peter. In the early 1950s, Judith also spent some time studying at a secretarial college.

Radio and Television Success

In the 1960s, Judith became a well-known voice on BBC radio. She presented two popular shows: Family Favourites and Woman's Hour. She also worked with famous comedians like Ken Dodd on his radio show.
