Judith Cochrane (born on October 31, 1975) is a politician from Northern Ireland. She was a member of the Northern Ireland Assembly for the East Belfast area from 2011 to 2016. She belongs to the Alliance Party.
Her Early Life
Judith Cochrane grew up in East Belfast. She was born and raised in Bloomfield. She went to Strandtown Primary School and Methodist College Belfast.
After school, she studied Nutrition at Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen. Later, she returned to Belfast. There, she earned her Master's degree in Business Administration from Queen's University, Belfast.
Her Political Journey
Before becoming a member of the Assembly, Judith Cochrane was a Councillor. She served on the Castlereagh Borough Council from 2005 to 2011. She also worked for the Department for Social Development. She was a management consultant for small and medium-sized businesses in Northern Ireland.
Roles and Committees
During her time in the Assembly, Judith Cochrane was very active. She was part of the Finance and Personnel Committee. She was also a member of the Assembly Commission.
She started a group called the All Party Group on SMEs. This group focused on helping small and medium-sized businesses. She was also part of groups that looked at cancer, tourism, and rugby. She even helped start the rugby group and was its vice-chairperson.
Judith Cochrane was also the chairperson of the Northern Ireland Assembly and Business Trust. This group helps connect the Assembly with businesses.
Besides her work at Stormont, she also ran an office for her local area. This office was on the Upper Newtownards Road in Ballyhackamore.
Judith Cochrane decided not to run for re-election in 2016. Naomi Long, who had been an Assembly member and a Member of Parliament for East Belfast before, took her place on the ballot.
Life Outside Politics
Judith Cochrane is married to Jonathan. They have two children together. The family lives in East Belfast. They are also active members of Bloomfield Presbyterian Church.
