Early Life and Theatre Work
Judith was born in Brisbane, Australia. She began her acting career on stage at the Brisbane Arts Theatre. She was also part of the Twelfth Night Theatre group.
Becoming a TV Star
Judith McGrath became very well-known for her role in the TV show Prisoner. In this series, she played Colleen "Poface" Powell, a fair but sarcastic Deputy Governor. She started as a small character in 1979 but became a main cast member in 1981. She appeared in 263 episodes before choosing to leave the show in 1984.
After Prisoner, Judith appeared in other popular Australian TV shows. She had guest roles in Neighbours and The Flying Doctors. She also starred in the children's TV show Round the Twist in 1989, playing Matron Gribble. From 1992 to 1993, she was a regular on A Country Practice as Bernice Hudson.
One of her longest roles was Yvonne "Von" Ryan in the medical drama All Saints. She joined the show when it started in 1998 and was the only original cast member to stay until it finished in 2009. She appeared in 493 episodes of All Saints.
Her Final Years
Judith McGrath passed away in a hospice in Brisbane on October 20, 2017. She was 70 years old.
