Early Life and Fashion Journey
Juli Grbac was born in 1978. She grew up in Brisbane, Australia. From a young age, Juli loved fashion. Her mother, who was a dressmaker, taught her how to sew.
Juli studied fashion design in Brisbane at Gateway TAFE. She then continued her studies in London at Central Saint Martins. This is a very famous design school. After returning from London, she worked for different fashion companies. In 2002, she started her own fashion label called "Grbac".
Her Own Fashion Label
Juli's "Grbac" label sold clothes in top Australian stores. She also opened her own shop in Brisbane. The shop was in the TC Beirne Centre. It stayed open for two years.
Winning Project Runway Australia
In 2008, Juli Grbac competed in Project Runway Australia. This was the very first season of the show. She won the competition, showing off her amazing design skills.
One of her most famous designs on the show was a dress. She made it for the singer Kelly Rowland. Kelly Rowland wore this special dress at a concert. The concert was for Prince Albert of Monaco in Cannes, France.
After Her Big Win
As part of her prize, Juli's designs were shown. This happened at the L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Week in 2009. Her collection received great reviews. She also had a six-page spread in Madison magazine.
Designing for Virgin Australia
In 2011, Juli Grbac took on a big project. She was asked to redesign the uniforms for Virgin Australia. She wanted the new uniforms to feel glamorous. She looked to the style of flying in the 1960s. But she also gave them a modern twist.
The new uniforms included a red dress for women. Men received a stylish three-piece suit. These new designs were shown at a special event. The famous model Elle Macpherson was there. Sixty Virgin Australia crew members also modeled the new uniforms.
Project Runway All Stars
In 2019, Juli Grbac returned to the Project Runway stage. She competed in season 7 of Project Runway All Stars. This season featured winners from around the world. Juli was eliminated in episode 5.
