Life and Education
Julia Pavón was born in Madrid, Spain, in 1968. She studied history and geography at the University of Zaragoza, finishing her first degree in 1991. She then earned her doctorate degree from the University of Navarra in 1996. Her supervisor for her doctorate was Ángel Martín Duque.
Today, she is a full Professor of Medieval History at the University of Navarra. She works in the Department of History, Art History, and Geography. From 2012 to 2019, she led this department as its director. In 2019, she became the Vice Dean of Academic Planning for Philosophy and Letters. This means she helps plan the courses and studies for students in these subjects.
Research and Projects
Professor Pavón has spent time studying how people in the Middle Ages thought about death. She looked at their beliefs and experiences. She also works with the University of Barcelona on a project called Claustra. This project is creating an "Atlas of female spirituality in the Middle Ages."
The Claustra project started in 2004. Its goal is to find and map all the monasteries where women lived in the Middle Ages. These monasteries existed from the early Middle Ages until the mid-1500s. As part of this work, a map of female monasteries in Navarra, Spain, has been published.
