Later, in 1999, she earned her PhD from The University of Western Australia. Her special research for her PhD was about the different shapes and parts of triggerplants.
A Career in Plant Science
As of July 2025, Dr. Wege works as a researcher at the Western Australian Herbarium. This is a special place run by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions in Western Australia. At the Herbarium, scientists collect and study plant samples. Dr. Wege also helps manage a science journal called Nuytsia, where new discoveries about plants are shared.
Her main job is in taxonomy. This is the science of naming, describing, and classifying living things. She focuses on the Stylidiaceae family, which includes the fascinating triggerplants. These plants are known for their special "trigger" mechanism that helps them pollinate.
International Experience
From 2005 to 2006, Dr. Wege had a very important role. She was the Australian Botanical Liaison Officer. This means she worked at the Royal Botanic Gardens in London, England. This is one of the most famous botanical gardens in the world. In this role, she helped connect Australian plant scientists with researchers in the United Kingdom.
