Julio Alberto Moreno Casas (born 7 October 1958), known as Julio Alberto, is a Spanish former professional footballer. He played as a left-back, a defender who plays on the left side of the field.

Julio Alberto spent most of his career playing for two big Spanish clubs: Atlético Madrid and Barcelona. He played in 269 La Liga matches, scoring 11 goals.

He also played for the Spanish national team in the mid-to-late 1980s. He represented Spain in major tournaments like the 1986 World Cup and Euro 1984.

Starting at Atlético Madrid

Julio Alberto was born in Candás, Asturias, Spain. He started his football journey in the youth system of Atlético Madrid. At first, he didn't play much for the main team.

He also spent some time on loan at Recreativo de Huelva in the Segunda División during the 1979–80 season. This helped him gain more experience.

After his loan, he joined Atlético Madrid's first team for the 1980–81 season. He played in 58 La Liga games over the next two years. His good performance caught the attention of FC Barcelona.

Moving to FC Barcelona

In 1982, Julio Alberto joined Barça, which is a nickname for FC Barcelona. He played for them for nine years. He had many great moments with the club.

He was a very important player when Barcelona won the league title in 1984–85. The next season, he scored an amazing goal against Juventus FC in the semi-finals of the European Cup. Barcelona won that home game 1–0.

Julio Alberto also played in the final of the European Cup. However, Barcelona lost that match to FC Steaua București after a penalty shootout.

Later Years at Barcelona

From 1988 to 1991, Julio Alberto played in fewer matches. This was when Barcelona's famous "Dream Team" was starting to form. He retired from football after playing only three games in the 1990–91 season. Barcelona won the national championship that year.

International Career

Playing for Spain

Julio Alberto played 34 matches for the Spanish national team over four years. He was chosen to be part of the squad for UEFA Euro 1984. He played in all the games as Spain finished as runners-up in that tournament.

He also played for Spain in the 1986 FIFA World Cup. His first game for the national team was on 29 February 1984. It was a friendly match against Luxembourg before Euro 1984. Spain won that game 1–0.

Life After Football

After he stopped playing football, Julio Alberto faced some personal challenges. He later recovered and started helping others. He became a speaker, sharing his experiences to help people.

He also began working with his former club, Barcelona, in a community role. He helps connect with fans and supports the club's foundation.
