The Juncal River is a river located in the country of Chile. It's about 35 kilometers (22 miles) long. This river starts high up in the mountains from the Juncal Norte Glacier, which is a large body of ice found at the top of a mountain called Nevado Juncal.
The Juncal River is an important part of the local environment. It flows into another, larger river called the Aconcagua River. Before it joins the Aconcagua, the Juncal River is also met by the Blanco River. One of its smaller streams, called the Juncalillo, gets its water from a beautiful lake known as Laguna del Inca.

Where the River Starts
The Juncal River begins its journey from the Juncal Norte Glacier. A glacier is like a very slow-moving river of ice. This glacier is located on the peak of Nevado Juncal, which is a tall mountain. As the glacier melts, it provides water that forms the start of the Juncal River.
The River's Path and Surroundings
The area where the Juncal River collects its water is called its watershed. This watershed covers about 220 square kilometers (85 square miles). A big part of this area, about 137.96 square kilometers (53 square miles), is inside a special place called Parque Andino Juncal.

Parque Andino Juncal is a private protected area. This means it's a special place set aside to protect nature and wildlife. It's also recognized as a Ramsar site. A Ramsar site is a wetland area that is very important for nature, especially for birds and other animals that depend on water. Being a Ramsar site means it's protected by an international agreement.
Joining Other Rivers
As the Juncal River flows, it eventually meets and joins the Blanco River. Together, these two rivers form the beginning of the Aconcagua River. The Aconcagua River is one of the most important rivers in the Valparaíso Region of Chile.
Tributaries of the Juncal River
A tributary is a smaller stream or river that flows into a larger one. The Juncal River has a tributary called the Juncalillo. This smaller stream gets its water from Laguna del Inca, a famous lake known for its beautiful blue waters.
