Junji Kawano (川野 淳次, Kawano Junji, born July 11, 1945) is a former Japanese football player. He was a talented defender who played for top clubs and also represented the Japanese national team.

Junji Kawano's Club Career

Early Life and Education

Junji Kawano was born in Nakatsu, Japan, on July 11, 1945. He loved football from a young age. After finishing high school, he went on to study at the Tokyo University of Education. This is where he continued to develop his football skills.

Playing for Toyo Industries

In 1968, after finishing his studies, Kawano joined a professional football club called Toyo Industries. This club was one of the strongest teams in Japan at the time. He quickly became an important player for them.

During his time with Toyo Industries, the team achieved great success. They won the Japan Soccer League championship twice, in 1968 and again in 1970. They also won the prestigious Emperor's Cup in 1969. This cup is one of the oldest and most important football tournaments in Japan.

Junji Kawano played for Toyo Industries until 1976. Over his career with the club, he played in 90 league games and scored 8 goals.

Junji Kawano's National Team Career

Representing Japan

Junji Kawano's excellent performance at his club earned him a spot on the Japanese national team. He made his first appearance for Japan on March 31, 1968. This was in a match against Australia.

World Cup Qualification

In October 1969, he was chosen to play for Japan in the qualifying matches for the 1970 FIFA World Cup. This was a big opportunity to help his country reach the world's biggest football tournament. He played two games for the national team before 1969 ended.
