Juriquilla is a lively suburb located near Santiago de Querétaro, Querétaro, Mexico. It started as a large farm, called a hacienda, way back in the 1700s. Later, in the 1970s, it grew into a popular area with a golf course and many homes.

Juriquilla is about 230 kilometers (143 miles) northwest of Mexico City. It's also only about 15 kilometers (9 miles) north of central Santiago de Querétaro. The main building of the old hacienda is now a hotel.

Juriquilla's Past: A Hacienda's Story

The main building of the Juriquilla hacienda was built in 1707. A hacienda was like a big estate or farm. By the late 1700s, a man named Pedro Antonio de Septién Montero y Austri owned the property. He was an important person in Querétaro for many years. Pedro Antonio passed away in 1814.

In the 1800s, the hacienda changed owners a few times. It was bought by Timoteo Fernández de Jáuregui, then Bernabé Loyola, and later Francisco Contreras. Finally, a rich businessman named José Mario Romero bought it. In 1992, the old hacienda building was turned into a hotel.
