How Jurlique Started
Jurlique was founded in 1985. Dr. Jurgen Klein and his wife Ulrike started the company. They named it by combining parts of their first names. The couple moved from Germany to South Australia. They chose a farm in the Adelaide Hills. This area has a warm climate.
Jurgen was a scientist who studied living things. He also practiced natural healing. He had worked for another natural skincare brand before. Ulrike was an expert in growing plants. She also studied plants.
Today, the farm is still part of the company. Jurlique says it is a top skincare brand in Australia. The brand is sold in over 5,000 stores worldwide. This includes more than 58 Jurlique stores. Eighteen of these stores are in Australia.

In the 2010 movie Valentine's Day, actress Julia Roberts used Jurlique hand cream. Her character was shown using it on an airplane.
Who Owns Jurlique Now
Jurlique started as a special natural skincare brand. In 2002, Australian businessman Kerry Packer bought the company. He paid $25 million for it.
Later, in 2011, Kerry Packer's son James sold the company. He sold it with American companies Triarc and JH Partners. A Japanese company called Pola Orbis Holdings bought Jurlique. They paid $355 million for it. Pola Orbis plans to grow the business. They especially want to expand in Asia.
