Career Highlights
Starting with Canberra
Justin Carney began his career with the Canberra Raiders. He made a great start, scoring two tries in his very first game in June 2008. His team won that game against the Brisbane Broncos by 34 to 16.
In July 2009, Justin got a broken leg during a game. This injury meant he couldn't play for the rest of 2009 and all of 2010. He was also recognized for his good work in the community during this time.
Time with Sydney Roosters
In July 2010, Justin Carney moved to the Sydney Roosters team. He played with them for two seasons. During his time there, he scored three tries in 17 games.
Playing for Castleford Tigers
Justin joined the Castleford Tigers in 2013. His coach, Ian Millward, said Justin would be a "crowd pleaser." He thought Justin would run the ball harder and faster than anyone else in the Super League.
Justin certainly proved him right! He scored 31 tries in 28 games for Castleford. In April 2014, he signed a new contract to stay with the team until 2019.
He also played in the 2014 Challenge Cup Final at Wembley Stadium. However, his team lost that game to the Leeds Rhinos. Justin stopped playing for Castleford in 2015. He had scored 63 tries in 62 games for them.
Moving to Salford Red Devils
In November 2015, Justin Carney joined the Salford Red Devils. He first joined on a loan deal for one year. Then, in April 2016, he signed a permanent three-year deal with them.
In May 2017, Justin received a ban from playing for eight matches. After this, he left Salford.
Finishing with Hull KR
After leaving Salford, Justin Carney joined Hull Kingston Rovers. He played for them for the rest of the 2018 season.
At the end of that season, Justin decided to retire from professional rugby league. He then went back to Australia. In 2019, he became a captain-coach for the Nyngan Tigers.
More recently, in July 2023, it was reported that he received a ban while playing for his new club, Albury Thunder. He is also the player-coach for this team.
