Early Life and Musical Journey
Justus Frantz started playing the piano when he was ten years old. He later studied music with talented teachers like Eliza Hansen and Wilhelm Kempff. He even received a special scholarship from the German National Scholarship Foundation to help him with his studies.
His international music career began in 1967. He won second prize at a big music competition with Claus Kanngießer, playing as a cello and piano team. In 1970, he performed with the famous Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. He made his first performance in the United States in 1975 with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. There, he played with Leonard Bernstein, who became a close friend for life. He also played with other great conductors like Carlo Maria Giulini and Rudolf Kempe.
Founding Festivals and Orchestras
Justus Frantz has done more than just perform. He also loves to create opportunities for music. In 1986, he started the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, which is a big music event. He also became a special ambassador for the United Nations Refugee Agency in 1989, helping people who had to leave their homes. He later retired from this role. In 1995, he founded another group called the Philharmonia of the Nations, which is an orchestra. Since 2013, he has been the musical director for The Israel Sinfonietta Beersheba.
