The movie is about Sarki Yusufu (Ado Ahmad Gidan Dabino MON), who is the emir, or ruler, of Jadarwa. His wives and other people in the palace start to take sides. They each want a different prince to become the next Emir.
This causes a lot of trouble in the palace. People try to trick each other, and confusion spreads. For example, Jakadiya (Ladidi Fagge) and Uwar Soro (Hauwa Musa) work together to make Prince Ahmadu seem unwell. Prince Umar, who was supposed to be the next ruler, is poisoned. Behind the Scenes: Making Juyin Sarauta
How the Movie Idea Started
In 2015, Balaraba Ramat Yakubu wrote the story for Juyin Sarauta. She wanted to show new ideas about the role of women in Northern Nigeria. In this region, culture and religion often affect women's basic rights. She talked about her idea with many people and did research.
With her team at Ramat Productions, they came up with the idea of how women could influence who becomes king in Hausaland. Balaraba Ramat Yakubu said that the story shows "women are the real power axis in Hausa society." This means women have a lot of hidden power.
To make the movie, they needed money and help from different groups. They reached out to many organizations and received a lot of support. A project called Project Act-Nollywood gave them a good amount of money to start the film.
Filming the Movie
The main filming for Juyin Sarauta started in March 2016. The team looked for a perfect place to film that would look like Hausaland from 100 years ago. Since they couldn't find one, they decided to build their own movie set.
They chose a town called Danhassan. There, they built a new palace city on a rented piece of land that was about 4 square kilometers.
At first, the director, Falalu A. Dorayi, chose an actor for the main role of Sarki Yusufa. But when the actor started filming, he couldn't perform well. So, Ado Ahmad Gidan Dabino MON took over the role and did a great job.
The movie took about twenty days to film, from February 11 to March 3, 2016. They had planned to finish in 10 days, but they needed more time due to some unexpected issues.
For some scenes, the film crew also used a local district head's house in Danhassan. They changed its outside look for the movie and then put it back to normal afterward.
