Kimberly Michelle Pate (born March 4, 1982), known as K. Michelle, is an American R&B singer and TV star. She became famous for her music and for appearing on the reality TV show Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta.
K. Michelle has released several successful albums. Her first album, Rebellious Soul, reached number two on the US Billboard 200 chart. She has also starred in her own reality series, K. Michelle: My Life. Recently, she has started making country music.

Early Life and Education
Kimberly Michelle Pate was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on March 4, 1982. From a young age, K. Michelle loved music. She learned to play the piano and guitar. She also took singing lessons from a famous teacher, Bob Westbrook. He also taught pop stars like Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears.
K. Michelle went to Overton High School in Memphis. She graduated in 2000. She earned a music scholarship to Florida A&M University (FAMU). She got the scholarship by showing off her yodeling skills! While at FAMU, she became a member of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority. She took a short break from college to have her son in September 2004. After that, she returned to FAMU and graduated with honors. She decided to focus on her music career instead of going to law school.
Music Career and TV Shows
Starting Out (2009–2011)
In 2009, K. Michelle signed a music deal with Jive Records. She released her first R&B song, "Fakin' It", which featured Missy Elliott. Over the next year, she released more songs like "Fallin'" and "I Just Can't Do This". These songs did well on the R&B charts. She was working on her first album, but it was never released because Jive Records closed down in 2011.
Reality TV and First Albums (2012–2014)
In 2012, K. Michelle joined the TV show Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta on VH1. The show followed her journey back into the music world. She became a very popular star on the show. Soon after, she signed a new record deal with Atlantic Records.
She returned for a second season of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta. This season showed her recording her first studio album, Rebellious Soul. In May 2013, she released the album's first song, "V.S.O.P". Her album Rebellious Soul came out on August 13, 2013. It was a big hit! It debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart and number one on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
In November 2013, K. Michelle started her first tour, called The Rebellious Soul Tour. It visited 19 cities across the country. After Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, K. Michelle moved to Love & Hip Hop: New York. This helped set up her own spin-off show, K. Michelle: My Life, which started in November 2014.
In September 2014, she released "Love 'Em All" from her second album, Anybody Wanna Buy a Heart?. This album was released in December 2014. It debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 chart and number one on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop chart.
More Music and TV (2015–2017)
K. Michelle released her third album, More Issues Than Vogue, in March 2016. Songs from this album included "Not a Little Bit" and "Ain't You". She also rejoined the main cast of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta for its fifth season. This season showed her return to Atlanta and the release of her new album.
In 2016, she went on her Hello Kimberly Tour. In 2017, her show K. Michelle: My Life ended after three seasons. She then released two new songs, "Birthday" and "Either Way", featuring Chris Brown. These songs were from her fourth album, Kimberly: The People I Used to Know, which was released in December 2017. This was her last album with Atlantic Records.
Recent Albums and Country Music (2018–Present)
In 2018, K. Michelle joined the cast of Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood. This made her the only person to be a main cast member on three different Love & Hip Hop shows! She also signed a new record deal with Entertainment One Music.
In 2020, K. Michelle released her fifth album, All Monsters Are Human. She called it a "masterpiece" and thanked her fans for their support. The album received good reviews.
In 2022, K. Michelle announced that her sixth album, I'm the Problem, would be her last R&B album. It was released in September 2023. The first song from the album, "Scooch", reached number one on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart.
K. Michelle has always wanted to sing country music. She released a country song called "Tennessee" as a bonus track on her I'm the Problem album. She also sang on a tribute album for The Judds, covering "Love Can Build a Bridge" with Jelly Roll. They performed the song together at the 57th Annual Country Music Association Awards. In 2024, K. Michelle officially signed a record deal to release her first country album. She has moved to Nashville to fully focus on her country music career.
