Kaharoa is a small rural community in New Zealand. It is located on the North Island. The area is about 20 kilometers from Rotorua. It is also 45 kilometers from Tauranga.

The New Zealand Ministry for Culture and Heritage explains the name. "Kaharoa" means "large net" in the Māori language.
Most of the land in Kaharoa is used for farming. It used to be mainly for dry stock. This means animals like sheep or beef cattle. Now, more farms are raising dairy cows. Some areas have small blocks of planted forests. There are also areas of native bush. These native areas are protected. They help to keep the North Island kōkako bird safe. This bird is native to New Zealand. Many old farms are now being divided. These smaller areas are called lifestyle blocks. People live a more rural life on these properties.
