Kaija Kokkola (born on September 10, 1962), known as Kaija Koo, is a famous Finnish singer. She started her music journey when she was 17 years old.
Kaija Koo began her career in 1980 with a band called Steel City. Later, the band changed its name to Kaija Koo Band. After some time, she decided to become a solo artist. Her first solo album, Kun savukkeet on loppuneet, came out in 1986.
Her big break came in 1993 with the album Tuulten viemää. She created this album with her husband at the time, Markku Impiö. It was a huge success, selling 175,000 copies! This made it one of the best-selling albums ever in Finland. Kaija Koo also sang in the background choir for the song "Titanic" in the Finnish part of the Eurovision Song Contest 1981.
Since her breakthrough, Kaija Koo has continued to be very successful. She has released new albums every few years. Throughout her career, she has sold over 540,000 certified records. This makes her one of the top-selling music artists in Finland. She is the third-best-selling female solo artist in her home country.
