His Family and Marriages

Kalanikaumakaowākea was the son of another chief named Kauhiakama. His mother was Queen Kapukini III. She was the daughter of Chief Makakaualiʻi.

Kalanikaumakaowākea had two wives during his life. His first wife was Kekaikuihala. Her parents were Chief Kuhinahinau from Kawaihae and his wife Keakahiwaʻakama.

Kalanikaumakaowākea's Children

Kalanikaumakaowākea and Kekaikuihala had three children:

• Piʻilaniwahine II, who later became the mother of Queen Lonomaʻaikanaka.
• King Lonohonuakini of Maui, who was named after the god Lono.
