Kallepia (also called Kallepeia Village) is a small village in the Paphos District of Cyprus. It is located about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) south of Letymvou. Another small village, Moro Nero, is also part of Kallepia's local area. Kallepia sits high up, about 497 meters (1,631 feet) above sea level. The highest point nearby is around 590 meters (1,936 feet).
Discovering Kallepia's Landscape
Kallepia is a village in the mountains, sitting at an altitude of about 490 meters (1,608 feet). The area has a beautiful mix of mountains, rocky cliffs, and wild plants. You'll also see lots of farms with vineyards (where grapes for wine grow), apple trees, lemon trees, and orange trees. There are also almond trees, carob trees, and fields of grain. A few olive trees dot the landscape too.
This village is home to around 200 people. It's known as one of the first villages in the Paphos area to produce wine. Many people, both from Cyprus and other countries, love to visit Kallepia. They often have cottages here and come for weekends or summer holidays.
Two rivers, the Ezousas and its smaller branches called Ammati and Kalamos, flow through Kallepia. These rivers, along with many natural springs, help keep the village and its surroundings cool. They also provide water for all the fruit trees and vegetables grown in the area.
Who Lives in Kallepia?
Kallepia has a really interesting mix of people living there. About half of the residents are original villagers who have lived there for a long time. The other half are people who have retired and moved there from all over the world. Most of these new residents come from the United Kingdom, but some are also from the USA, Israel, and Germany. This mix creates a unique and friendly community.
Village Life and Facilities
Even though Kallepia is a small village, it has some nice places to visit. You can find a traditional Cypriot taverna, which is a restaurant serving local food. There are also two traditional coffee shops where people gather to chat and relax. These spots are great for experiencing the local culture and enjoying some delicious food and drinks.
