Kameisha Jerae Hodge (born November 1, 1989) is an American writer, publisher, poet, and spoken word artist. She is from Washington, D.C.. Kameisha is the founder and CEO of Sovereign Noir Publications. This publishing company started in 2019. It helps share the voices of Black women writers.

Early Life and Education
Kameisha Hodge was born in 1989 in Washington, D.C.. She is the oldest of eleven children. She, her brother, and her sister were raised by their mother, Sabrina. For a time, they did not always have a permanent home. They stayed with relatives or in shelters.
Discovering a Love for Writing
Kameisha started reading in poetry contests when she was in middle school. In tenth grade, she met Yolonda D. Coleman. Yolonda became her mentor. She taught Kameisha about journalism, publishing, and writing. She also showed her how to succeed in the writing world as a Black girl.
Coleman-Body encouraged Kameisha to write for Rated-T, her school magazine. Kameisha became a reporter, writer, and editor there. She also led the school newspaper, Knight Vision, as Editor-in-Chief. She finished high school at Friendship Collegiate Academy Public Charter School in 2007.
College Years and Activities
Kameisha attended Lafayette College. She was a Posse Scholar. She studied English and Africana. She quickly became very involved in college life.
- She was the Vice President of Writing Organization Reaching Dynamic Students. This was a student arts group.
- She performed at open mic nights and poetry slams.
- She started Lafayette's step team.
- She was a leader in the Association of Black Collegians.
- She co-hosted a radio show.
- She helped manage the African-Caribbean interest floor in her dorm.
During a summer break, she interned at MTV. She worked in the development department for The N. While there, she was in the live audience for Total Request Live. She also appeared in the pilot episode of Dance or Drop. This was a proposed MTV show.
Kameisha graduated from Lafayette in 2012. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Later, she earned a Master of Arts degree in English and creative writing. She focused on poetry at Southern New Hampshire University. She also has a certificate in publishing.
Career Highlights
Kameisha Hodge published her first poetry book, Atlas of Consciousness, in 2010. She did this herself while still a student at Lafayette. Since then, she has published two more collections of poems. These include Double Consciousness: An Autoethnic Guide to My Black American Experience (July 2014).
She has been a top-selling author on Amazon. Her work has been published in the Georgetown Journal of Law & Modern Critical Race Perspectives. She was also a TEDx speaker at Lafayette College. Kameisha has worked with organizations like Martha's Table, NPR, WAMU, UrRepublic, and Viacom.
Sovereign Noir Publications
In 2019, Kameisha founded Sovereign Noir Publications. This company focuses on sharing the work of Black women writers. She also co-founded i2Kings1Queen Publishing with Charles Smith. He was a classmate from high school. Kameisha is also a mentor for the First Ladies of Poverty Foundation.
