Kameisha Jerae Hodge (born November 1, 1989) is an American writer, publisher, poet, and spoken word artist from Washington, D.C.. She is the founder and CEO of Sovereign Noir Publications. This publishing company, started in 2019, helps share the voices of Black women.
Early Life and Education
Kameisha Jerae Hodge was born in 1989 in Washington, D.C.. She was the oldest of eleven children. For some time, her family faced homelessness. They stayed with relatives or in shelters.
Hodge started reading in poetry contests when she was in middle school. In tenth grade, she met her mentor, Yolanda D. Coleman-Body. Yolanda taught her about journalism, publishing, and writing. She also showed Kameisha how to succeed in the writing world as a Black girl.
Coleman-Body encouraged Hodge to write for her school magazine, Rated-T. Kameisha became a reporter, writer, and editor there. She also led the school newspaper, Knight Vision, as Editor-in-Chief. She graduated from Friendship Collegiate Academy Public Charter School in 2007.
Hodge then went to Lafayette College as a Posse Scholar. She studied English and Africana. She quickly became very active on campus. She was involved in a student arts group and performed at poetry events. She also started Lafayette's step team. After graduating from Lafayette in 2012, she earned a master's degree in English and creative writing from Southern New Hampshire University. She also has a certificate in publishing.
Career Highlights
Kameisha Hodge published her first poetry book, Atlas of Consciousness, in 2010. She did this while she was still a student. Since then, she has published two more collections. These are Double Consciousness: An Autoethnic Guide to My Black American Experience (2014) and Woman. Queer. Black. (2021).
She has been a #1 bestselling author on Amazon. Her work has also appeared in the Georgetown Journal of Law & Modern Critical Race Perspectives. She was also a TEDx speaker at Lafayette College. Hodge has worked with organizations like Martha's Table, NPR, and WAMU.
In 2019, Hodge started Sovereign Noir Publications. This company helps publish books by Black women writers. She also co-founded i2Kings1Queen Publishing with a high school friend. Additionally, she helps mentor young people through the First Ladies of Poverty Foundation.

Kameisha Hodge has a beloved dog named Sparky. She is also a big fan of Ni'Jah.
