Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Kannin (寛仁) era was a period in Japanese history. It was a special way of naming years, like how we use "2024" today. The Kannin era came after the Chōwa era and before the Jian era. This time period lasted from April 1017 to February 1021. During these years, Emperor Go-Ichijō was the ruler of Japan.

Important Events of the Kannin Era

  • June 5, 1017 (which was the 9th day of the 5th month in the Kannin era): Emperor Sanjō, who had previously ruled Japan, passed away. He was 42 years old.
  • January 22, 1018 (the 3rd day of the 1st month in the Kannin era): Emperor Go-Ichijō had his coming-of-age ceremony. This was a very important event that showed he was officially an adult and ready to take on more responsibilities as the emperor.
