The National Diet Library (which in Japanese is called 国立国会図書館 (Kokuritsu Kokkai Toshokan)) is Japan's only national library. It was created in 1948. A national library is a very important library. It collects and keeps almost every book, magazine, and other publication made in its country.
This library helps the members of the Japanese government. The government is called the Diet of Japan (国会, Kokkai). The National Diet Library is a bit like the Library of Congress in the United States. Both libraries help their country's lawmakers. They also collect many different kinds of information.

Main Locations of the Library
The National Diet Library has two main buildings. One is in the big city of Tokyo. The other main building is in Kyoto.
Besides these two main places, there are also several smaller branch libraries. These branches are located in different parts of Japan. They help make sure people across the country can use the library's resources.
What a National Library Does
A national library has several important jobs. Its main goal is to collect and keep all the books, newspapers, and other materials published in its country. This way, future generations can learn from them.
It also provides information to the government. This helps lawmakers make good decisions for the country. National libraries often have special collections too. These might include old maps, rare books, or important historical documents.
