Kaohsiung County was a special area in southern Taiwan. It was like a big region that surrounded Kaohsiung City. Think of it as a county, which is a type of local government area. It was part of Taiwan Province under the Republic of China government.

What Was Kaohsiung County?

Kaohsiung County was a large area in the southern part of Taiwan. It had its own government and was responsible for many towns and villages. It worked closely with the central government of the Republic of China. For many years, it helped manage the daily lives of people living there.

Its History

Kaohsiung County was officially created in 1945. This was after World War II, when Taiwan became part of the Republic of China. Before that, during the time Taiwan was ruled by Japan, the area was part of a different administrative region called Takao Prefecture.

For about 65 years, Kaohsiung County was an important part of southern Taiwan. It helped develop the region, building roads, schools, and other important things.

Joining Kaohsiung City

In 2010, something big happened. Kaohsiung County and Kaohsiung City decided to join together. They became one big special municipality. This means they now work as a single, larger city area. This change was made to help the region grow even more and to make government services better for everyone. After this, Kaohsiung County no longer existed as a separate county. Its areas became districts within the new, bigger Kaohsiung City.
