Kapaʻa is a town in Hawaii, located on the island of Kauai. It is also spelled Kapaa. In the Hawaiian language spoken on Kauaʻi, it is called Tapaʻa.
Kapaʻa is the biggest town on the island of Kauaʻi. In 2020, about 11,652 people lived there. This number has grown quite a bit since 2000, when the population was 9,471.
The name Kapaʻa comes from Hawaiian words. It means "the solid one." This is because ka means "the" and paʻa means "solid."
Where is Kapaʻa?
Kapaʻa is found on the eastern side of Kauai. The Pacific Ocean is to its east. To the south, you'll find the towns of Wailua and Wailua Homesteads.
A main road, Hawaii Route 56, goes through the eastern part of Kapaʻa. This road can take you north to Anahola (about 6 miles away) or south to Lihue (about 8 miles away).
The town covers an area of about 10.37 square miles (26.8 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.

In 2000, there were 9,471 people living in Kapaʻa. About 3,129 families lived there. The town was quite diverse. Many people were of Asian, White, or Pacific Islander backgrounds. Also, a good number of people were from two or more races. About 9.5% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
