About Kardea Brown
Kardea Brown was born in Charleston, South Carolina. Her family comes from the Gullah people. The Gullah are a unique cultural group from the Lowcountry region of South Carolina. Her grandmother is from Wadmalaw Island. Kardea is known for her modern style of Southern cooking.
Her Journey to Becoming a Chef
Before becoming a chef, Kardea worked in social services. She tried out for a TV show on the Food Network. They told her to work more on her cooking skills. So, in 2015, she started something called the New Gullah Supper Club. This was a special traveling dinner club. It offered traditional Gullah dishes with a new twist. These events often featured Gullah singers or storytellers.
The Food Network later invited her to appear on Beat Bobby Flay. She also hosted Cupcake Championship. After these shows, she was offered her very own cooking show. In 2021, Kardea signed a special agreement with Food Network. This agreement also included her hosting The Great Soul Food Cook-Off.

Kardea Brown's show, Delicious Miss Brown, is filmed at a home on Edisto Island. The show focuses on cooking with fresh, seasonal ingredients. Many of her recipes feature seafood.
Kardea has a special connection to Hutchinson House on Edisto Island. Her great-great-great grandmother was the last person to own this historic house. In 2021, Kardea hosted a special episode of her show. It featured a fish-fry fundraiser to collect money for the house's restoration. During this episode, she talked about the history of the house. She explained that it was built by people who were forced to work without pay. The show helped raise awareness and funds for this important historical site.
Her Cookbook
Kardea Brown also wrote a cookbook. Her first cookbook is called The Way Home. It was published in October 2022.
