Kari Jorun Blakkisrud Hag (born April 4, 1941) is a Norwegian mathematician. She is known for her studies in a field of math called complex analysis. This area looks at special shapes and how they change. Kari Hag also worked hard to help more girls and women get involved in math and science. She used to be a professor of mathematics at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). With another mathematician, Frederick Gehring, she wrote a book called The Ubiquitous Quasidisk in 2012.

Her Journey in Math

Kari Hag grew up in a place called Eidsvoll in Norway. She started her university studies in Trondheim in 1963. Later, she continued her education at the University of Oslo, finishing another degree in 1967.

She then went to the University of Michigan in the United States. There, she earned her highest degree, a doctorate, in 1972. For her doctorate, she wrote a big research paper about how shapes change in specific ways. Her teacher, Frederick Gehring, helped her with this work.

After finishing her studies, Kari Hag started working at the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH). This university later became part of NTNU. She became a full professor at NTNU in 2001. She retired from her teaching role in 2011.

Awards and Recognition

Kari Hag has received special honors for her work.

In 2000, NTNU gave her their gender equality award. This award recognized her efforts to encourage girls to become more interested in science and mathematics. She wanted to make sure everyone had an equal chance to study these subjects.

In 2018, she was chosen to be a knight in the Order of St. Olav. This is a very important award given by the King of Norway to people who have done great things for their country.
