Karl August Genzken (born June 8, 1885 – died October 10, 1957) was a German doctor during World War II. He was a member of the Nazi Party and held a high position in the Waffen-SS. The Waffen-SS was the military branch of the SS, a powerful organization within the Nazi Party.

Genzken was the Chief of the Medical Office for the Waffen-SS. After the war, he was put on trial for very serious actions he took during the war. He was found guilty of war crimes and sentenced to prison. His sentence was later changed, and he was released in 1954.

Joining the Nazi Party

Karl Genzken joined the NSDAP on July 7, 1926. This was a political party in Germany that came to power and started World War II. He also joined the SS on November 5, 1933. The SS was a very strong and feared group within the Nazi Party.

In 1934, Genzken became an officer in the Naval Medical Service. He then moved to the SS and quickly rose through the ranks. He became the medical superintendent of the SS Hospital in Berlin. By 1942, he was appointed the Chief of the Medical Office of the Waffen-SS. He reached the rank of Major General in the Waffen-SS.

Trial and Conviction After the War

After World War II ended, Karl Genzken was brought to trial. This trial was called the Doctors' Trial. It was held in Nuremberg, Germany, by American military officials. The trial focused on doctors who had committed serious crimes during the war.

In August 1947, Genzken was found guilty. He was convicted of war crimes and for being part of a criminal organization. The court sentenced him to life in prison. However, his sentence was later reduced to 20 years. He was released from prison in April 1954.
