Early Life and Journeys
Karl Ludwig von Pöllnitz was born in 1692. His father, Wilhelm Ludwig von Pöllnitz, was a soldier. He worked for the elector of Brandenburg. Because of this, Karl spent much of his childhood in Berlin.
Karl was a very restless person. He loved to travel and explore. He visited many royal courts across Europe. He also served as a soldier in different countries. These included Austria, Italy, and Spain.
Working for Kings
In 1735, Karl returned to Berlin. He found a job working for King Frederick William I of Prussia. Later, he worked for Frederick the Great. It seems that Frederick the Great liked him a lot. Karl Ludwig von Pöllnitz lived in Berlin until he passed away on June 23, 1775.
His Writings
Pöllnitz wrote several books about his life. His most famous work was called Mémoires. This book was published in 1734. It was later translated into German. His Mémoires share interesting stories about his travels. They also describe the many people he met. However, it's important to remember that his memories might not always be completely accurate.
He also wrote other books, such as Nouveaux mémoires (1737). Another book was Etat abrégé de la cour de Saxe sous le règne d'Auguste III. (1734). He also wrote Mémoires pour servir a l'histoire des quatres derniers souverains de la maison de Branderibourg. This book was published after his death in 1791.
