Karl Wilhelm Ramler (born February 25, 1725 – died April 11, 1798) was an important German poet. He was also a teacher and a master at a special school in Berlin.

Early Life and Education

Karl Wilhelm Ramler was born in a town called Kolberg, which is now in Poland. When he was older, he went to the University of Halle. This is where he studied and learned many things.

A Career in Berlin

After finishing his studies, Ramler moved to Berlin. In 1748, he got a job as a professor. He taught logic (which is about how to think clearly) and literature at a cadet school. A cadet school is a place where young people train to become military officers.

Working with Theatre

Later in his life, Ramler became involved with the royal theatre in Berlin. In 1786, he started working with another writer named Johann Jakob Engel to manage the theatre. Ramler loved the theatre so much that he eventually left his teaching job. From 1790 to 1796, he was the only director of the royal theatre. This meant he was in charge of everything that happened there!

Later Years and Legacy

Karl Wilhelm Ramler passed away in Berlin in 1798. You can still see a special memorial for him. It is on the outside wall of a church in Berlin called the Sophienkirche. His work as a poet and his contributions to education and theatre are remembered.
