Karla Bonoff (born December 27, 1951) is an American singer and songwriter. She is well-known for writing many popular songs that other famous artists have sung. Some of her songs include "Home," which Bonnie Raitt recorded, and "Tell Me Why" sung by Wynonna Judd.
The famous singer Linda Ronstadt recorded several of Karla Bonoff's songs. For example, on her 1976 album Hasten Down the Wind, Linda Ronstadt sang "Someone To Lay Down Beside Me," "Lose Again," and "If He's Ever Near." Later, in 1989, Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville sang Bonoff's song "All My Life" as a duet.

Karla Bonoff was born to Chester and Shirley Bonoff. She was named after her grandfather, Karl Bonoff. Her family has roots from different countries like Russia, Hungary, Austria, and Germany.

When Karla Bonoff first started her music career, she sang background vocals for other artists. These included Linda Ronstadt and Wendy Waldman. In 1977, she released her very first album, which was simply called Karla Bonoff.

Over the years, Karla Bonoff released several other albums. These include Restless Nights (1979), Wild Heart of the Young (1982), and New World (1988). In 1999, she released All My Life, which was a collection of her greatest hits.
While she is famous for writing songs, Karla Bonoff also had a hit song of her own. Her recording of "Personally" became very popular in 1982. It reached No. 19 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also climbed to No. 3 on the Adult Contemporary chart.

Karla Bonoff was also part of a music group called Bryndle. This group included Wendy Waldman, Kenny Edwards, and Andrew Gold. Bryndle first formed in the late 1960s. However, they did not release any albums until many years later. They released two studio albums and one live album between 1995 and 2002. Karla Bonoff also appeared on the 'Sapphire' album by Keiko Matsui. Today, she continues to tour and perform in the United States and Japan.
