Kate Gale is an American writer, poet, and publisher. She was born in 1966. She is well-known for being the publisher of Red Hen Press, a company that publishes books.

About Kate Gale

Kate Gale was born in Binghamton, New York. Her parents are Stephen Gale and Evadene Swanson. She studied English at Arizona State University. Later, she earned a master's degree in English from California State University Northridge in 1990. She also received a Ph.D. in English from Claremont Graduate University in 2003.

Her Career

Kate Gale and her husband, Mark E. Cull, started Red Hen Press in 1994. This company publishes many different books. Kate Gale is the main editor at Red Hen Press. She also edits the Los Angeles Review, which is part of Red Hen Press.

She used to be the president of the Los Angeles group for the American Composers Forum. From 2005 to 2006, she was the president of PEN USA. She also helps guide the School of Arts and Humanities at Claremont Graduate University. Kate Gale is also on the board of the Poetry Society of America.

She teaches writing to students at the University of Omaha. She also teaches at San Diego State University. Kate Gale writes articles for HuffPost.

Her Creative Works

Kate Gale has written many books of poetry. Her first book was Blue Air. She published three poetry collections with Red Hen Press. These include Where Crows and Men Collide, Selling the Hammock, and Fishers of Men. Her book Mating Season came out in 2004.

She has also written stories for two operas. An opera is a play where the words are sung. One opera, Rio de Sangre, was shown at Walt Disney Concert Hall in 2005. It had its first full show in 2010. Another opera, Paradises Lost, was written with Ursula K. Le Guin.

In 2014, Kate published two more poetry books. These were Goldilocks Zone and Echo Light. In 2016, some of her poems from Echo Light were turned into songs. These songs were part of a collection called The Palm Trees Are Restless.

Her books The Loneliest Girl and The Goldilocks Zone were published by the University of New Mexico Press. Her novel Under a Neon Sun was published in 2024. Today, she continues to be the publisher of Red Hen Press.
