Starting in Government

Goals as a Leader
As a politician, Kate Mitchell had several important goals. She wanted to help older people in the community. She also aimed to solve problems with housing shortages. Another key goal was to make sure a recent land claims agreement was followed. She also worked to make the government more open and clear about its actions.
Stepping Down from Leadership
Kate Mitchell served as the First Minister of Nunatsiavut until 2019. She decided to step down from this leadership role. This happened after some concerns arose regarding a housing matter. After her resignation, Tony Andersen took over as the First Minister.
Continuing as a Representative
Even after leaving the First Minister position, Kate Mitchell continued to serve. She remained the Ordinary Member for Makkovik. She held this position until December 2019, when she resigned from that role as well.
