Katei facts for kids
Katei (嘉禎) was a special name for a period in Japanese history, like calling a time "the Victorian Era" in other countries. These periods are called nengō (年号) or "era names." The Katei era came after an era called Bunryaku and before Ryakunin.
This time in history started in September 1235 and ended in November 1238. During the Katei era, the emperor of Japan was Emperor Shijō.
What Happened During the Katei Era?
- 1235 (first year of Katei, 11th month): A powerful leader named Kujō Yoritsune received a higher position in the court. This meant he gained more importance and power among the people who worked for the emperor.
- 1236 (second year of Katei, 7th month): Yoritsune was promoted again! He moved up to an even higher rank in the court. This showed he was becoming very influential.
- 1237 (third year of Katei, 8th month): Yoritsune decided to build a big new house. He chose a part of Kyoto called Rokuhara for his new mansion.
