Katharine Alexander (born September 22, 1898, died February 10, 1981) was a talented American actress. She performed in many plays and appeared in 44 movies between 1930 and 1951.

Her Early Life

Katharine Alexander was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Her parents were Joseph Hall Alexander and Susan Sophronia Duncan. She was also a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, an important Native American tribe.

When she was young, Katharine wanted to be a concert artist and play the violin. A famous movie producer named Samuel Goldwyn saw her play. He was so impressed that he gave her a chance to act on stage. This led her to become a leading actress on Broadway, which is the most famous theater district in New York City. Later, she started acting in movies in 1930.

Her Stage Career

Katharine Alexander made her first stage appearance in a play called A Successful Calamity. She acted alongside famous actors like William Gillette.

One of her most important roles was in the play Death of a Salesman. She played the character of Linda Loman, the wife of the main character. This play was shown in London in 1949 and was directed by Elia Kazan.

Katharine performed in many other Broadway plays throughout her career. Some of these included Time for Elizabeth (1948), Little Brown Jug (1946), Letters to Lucerne (1941), and The Queen's Husband (1928). She had a very busy and successful career on stage.

Her Family Life

On January 5, 1926, Katharine Alexander married William A. Brady Jr. in New York City. William was also from a famous theater family. His father, William A. Brady, was a well-known theater actor and producer. His mother, Grace George, was also an actress.

Katharine and William had one daughter together, named Barbara Alexander Brady. Barbara also followed in her parents' footsteps and became an actress.

Later Years and Passing

Katharine Alexander passed away in Tryon, North Carolina, on February 10, 1981. She was 82 years old. She was buried in her hometown of Fort Smith, Arkansas, in the Forest Park Cemetery.
