A Life of Music and Teaching
Kathleen Nesbitt started teaching the fiddle way back in 1967. She quickly became one of the most famous music teachers in Ireland. Many young musicians learned from her.
In 1983, she began teaching special advanced classes at a place called Scoil Éigse. These classes were for very talented fiddle players who wanted to learn even more. Her amazing fiddle playing and teaching took her all over the world! She performed and taught in countries like the United States, Canada, Iceland, and France.
Since 1990, she has been a teacher at the big Festival Interceltique de Lorient in France. This festival celebrates Celtic culture and music. Today, she helps guide and teach about traditional Irish music at an important organization called Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann. She makes sure the music stays true to its roots.
Awards and Achievements
Kathleen Nesbitt has won some big awards for her musical talent. She won the Oireachtas Gold Medal, which is a very special honor in Irish music. She also won the Oireachtas duet competition alongside her husband, John. They played beautiful music together!
