Kathleen Vereecken (born December 14, 1962) is a talented writer from Belgium. She writes many different kinds of books. These include exciting novels, fun stories for children, and non-fiction books that teach you new things.

She has won several important awards for her writing. Some of these are the Boekenleeuw and the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs.

Her Early Life

Kathleen Vereecken was born in 1962. She grew up with three sisters.

Before she became a full-time writer, Kathleen worked as a journalist. She wrote for different women's magazines. She also wrote for a newspaper called De Standaard.

Becoming a Writer

Kathleen Vereecken published her very first book in 1993. It was called Het raadsel in het fluisterbos. She had entered this story in a competition for children's books.

Two of her books were nominated for a big award called the Gouden Uil. These books were Alle kleuren grijs (1997) and Kleine Cecilia (1999).

Her Books and Stories

Many of Kathleen's books are about history. For example, Lara & Rebecca (2006) takes place a long time ago. It is set on a farm in Louisiana in the 1800s.

Other historical books include Ik denk dat het liefde was (2009) and Zijdeman (2013). Both of these stories happen in Paris during the 1700s.

In 2019, Kathleen Vereecken won two more big awards. She won both the Woutertje Pieterse Prijs and the Boekenleeuw. She shared these awards with the illustrator Charlotte Peys. They won for their book Alles komt goed, altijd. This story is about a girl living during World War I.

Many talented artists have drawn pictures for Kathleen's books. Some of these illustrators include Anne Westerduin and Piet De Moor.
