Kathryn Thomas grew up in Carlow, Ireland. She first went to the national school on the Green Road in Carlow. Later, she attended St Leo's College, Carlow for her secondary school years. In her second year, she moved to The King's Hospital in Dublin. There, she lived at the school as a boarder.

She began studying at University College Dublin (UCD). Her subjects included English, Sociology, and Information Studies. However, she left university early. This was because she got a contract to present the children's TV show Rapid. Kathryn also took acting exams from London Guildhall, reaching Grade 8.

Starting Out in Television

Kathryn Thomas got her big break in television with the show Rapid. This was a youth sports show. She co-presented it with Dublin GAA star Jason Sherlock. This happened during the 1990s.

In 2008, Kathryn co-presented Winning Streak: Dream Ticket. She worked alongside Aidan Power on this show. From 2009, she continued to co-present Winning Streak with Marty Whelan. She left Winning Streak in December 2011.

Hosting Popular TV Shows

In 2011, Kathryn became the new presenter for Operation Transformation. This popular show airs on RTÉ One. In August 2011, it was announced that she would also host The Voice of Ireland. This show is the Irish version of the famous singing competition, The Voice.

In 2023, Kathryn Thomas made history. She was announced as a co-host for the annual Rose of Tralee festival. She hosted it with the festival's regular host, Dáithí Ó Sé. This was the first time that two people hosted the event together.

In 2015, Kathryn shared something interesting about herself. She revealed that the shooting stars on her arm were not real tattoos. They were actually temporary transfers. She said she was too scared to get a real tattoo.
