Katja Schuurman, born on February 19, 1975, is a well-known Dutch actress, singer, and TV presenter. She has been active in the entertainment world since 1992. Katja is famous for her roles in TV shows and movies, and for her music career.

Early Life and First Steps

Katja Schuurman grew up in the Netherlands. She is the oldest daughter in her family. Her father is Dutch, and her mother was born in Curaçao with a mixed background. Katja also has a younger sister, Birgit Schuurman, who is also a singer and actress.

Katja went to the Montessori Lyceum Herman Jordan school. Even when she was young, she started getting involved in show business. She had a small part in a TV series called Uit de school geklapt in 1993. She also posed for a magazine and won a talent show called the Soundmixshow twice with her ballet group.

After finishing high school, Katja wasn't sure what to do next. She thought about studying Political Science at the University of Amsterdam. But she also signed up with different casting agencies. In the end, she decided to focus on acting.

Katja's Career Journey

Starting Out in the 1990s

Katja Schuurman's acting career officially began in 1993. She appeared in the TV series Uit de school geklapt. Her big break came in 1995 when she joined the popular soap opera Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden (GTST). She played the character Jessica.

While on GTST, Katja formed a girl group with two other actresses from the show. The group was called Linda, Roos & Jessica (LR&J). Their first song, "Ademnood," became a number one hit in the Netherlands in late 1995.

Katja also made her first movie appearance in 1996. It was in a film called De Zeemeerman (The Merman). She continued to release hit songs both with LR&J and as a solo artist. Some of her popular songs included Maar nu heb ik er een and Wereldmeid. By 1999, Katja had left the GTST cast. The group LR&J also broke up after releasing their last song, "1999 X."

From 2000 to Today

In 2000, Katja starred in the movie Costa!. She played the character Frida. In this movie, she worked again with Georgina Verbaan, who had played her sister in Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden. Costa! was very popular. It was even turned into a TV series, and Katja appeared in the first two seasons. She also appeared in the 2022 film Costa!!.

After this, Katja became a TV presenter for several channels. She hosted shows for BNN until 2008, then for NET5 until 2014. From 2014 onwards, she worked for KRO-NCRV. In 2019, Katja returned to RTL. In 2024, she was set to return to GTST to play her role as Jessica again. Katja and Babette van Veen released the song Fout Feestje in 2025.

Katja's Family Life

Katja Schuurman married actor Thijs Römer in France on August 8, 2006. Thijs Römer is the grandson of another famous actor, Piet Römer. Katja and Thijs had a daughter named Sammie, who was born on April 22, 2010. They later divorced in February 2015.

In 2019, Katja married chef Freek van Noortwijk. They had a daughter in August 2020, which was Katja's second child. Katja and Freek divorced in 2021.
