Katsuyoshi Shinto (信藤 健仁, Shinto Katsuyoshi, born September 15, 1960) is a famous Japanese football player and manager. He was born in Hiroshima, Japan. Shinto played as a defender, which is a player who helps protect their team's goal. He also played for the Japan national team. After his playing career, he became a football manager.

Playing for Clubs

Katsuyoshi Shinto started his football journey in his hometown. After finishing university, he joined a local club called Mazda in 1983. He played there for many years.

In 1990, Shinto moved to Mitsubishi Motors. This team later became known as Urawa Reds. He was a regular player for this team, meaning he played in most of their games.

A new league called the J1 League started in 1992. However, Shinto did not get to play much in this new league. In 1993, he moved to another club called Fujita Industries. This team later changed its name to Bellmare Hiratsuka.

His new club, Bellmare Hiratsuka, had a great year in 1993. They won their league and moved up to the J1 League. The team also won the 1994 Emperor's Cup in 1994. This is a very important football tournament in Japan. They also won the 1995 Asian Cup Winners' Cup in 1995. Shinto stopped playing football in 1995.

Playing for His Country

Katsuyoshi Shinto also played for the Japan national team. His first game for Japan was on May 27, 1987, against Senegal.

He played in several important matches for Japan. These included games for the 1988 Summer Olympics qualification. He also played in the 1990 World Cup qualification games. Shinto was also part of the team for the 1990 Asian Games. He played 15 games for Japan and scored 1 goal before 1990.

Becoming a Coach

After he stopped playing, Shinto started a new career as a coach. In 1996, he began coaching at his old club, Bellmare Hiratsuka.

In 1999, he moved to coach another team called Toho Titanium. Then, in 2001, he became the manager for Yokohama FC. As a manager, he was in charge of the whole team. In the 2002 season, his team finished at the bottom of the league. He then left his role as manager at the end of that season.
