Playing for Clubs
Kazuki Ganaha started his professional football journey after finishing high school in 1999. He joined Kawasaki Frontale, a team in the J2 League.
Early Career at Kawasaki Frontale
Ganaha played his first professional game on May 2, 1999. This was against Vegalta Sendai. His first goal came a year later, on May 13, 2000, playing against Nagoya Grampus.
In 1999, his team, Kawasaki Frontale, won the J2 League championship. This meant they moved up to the J1 League, which is the top league in Japan. However, in 2000, the team finished last in J1 and went back down to J2.
Becoming a Key Player
By 2003, Ganaha became a regular player for Kawasaki Frontale. In 2004, he scored 22 goals, making him the second-highest scorer in the J2 League that season. His efforts helped Kawasaki Frontale win the J2 League again. They were promoted back to the J1 League.
In 2006, Ganaha continued to shine in J1. He scored 18 goals, becoming the third-highest scorer in the league. Kawasaki Frontale also finished in second place in the J1 League that year. After 2007, he played less often for the team.
A Challenge Off the Field
During the 2007 season, Ganaha faced a challenge. He was suspended for six games. This was due to a misunderstanding about a medical treatment he received. He had received a treatment for dehydration.
Ganaha believed the suspension was unfair. He took his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). In May 2008, the court ruled in his favor. They agreed with him and removed the six-game suspension.
Moving to Other Teams
In 2009, Ganaha moved to Vissel Kobe. He played for two seasons there. However, he did not play many matches and scored only one goal during his time with the club.
In 2011, Ganaha joined FC Ryukyu. This team was based in his home area of Okinawa Prefecture. He played as a forward and scored many goals for them. FC Ryukyu was later promoted to the new J3 League in 2014.
In January 2014, Ganaha moved to Kamatamare Sanuki. This team had just been promoted to the J2 League. He played many games for them until 2016. However, he played less often after that. In 2018, Kamatamare Sanuki finished last in J2 and moved down to J3.
Since 2023, Kazuki Ganaha has been playing for J-Lease FC.
Playing for Japan
Kazuki Ganaha also played for the Japan national football team. He made his first appearance for the national team on August 9, 2006. This was in a friendly match against Trinidad and Tobago. This game was the first under the new national coach, Ivica Osim.
Ganaha was the first footballer born in Okinawa to play for the Japan national team. His first goal for Japan was a winning goal in a game against Yemen. This was a qualifier for the 2007 AFC Asian Cup, played on September 6, 2006. He also scored two goals in another qualifier against Saudi Arabia. In total, he played 6 games for Japan in 2006 and scored 3 goals.
