Kebby Sililo Kambu Musokotwane was an important politician from Zambia. He was born on 5 May 1946 and passed away on 11 February 1996.
He was a member of a political group called the United National Independence Party (UNIP). He was also a close helper and friend of Kenneth Kaunda, who was the President of Zambia at that time.
Early Political Life
Kebby Musokotwane started his political career in important roles. From 1981 to 1982, he was the Minister of Finance. This meant he was in charge of managing Zambia's money and economy.
Becoming Prime Minister
Musokotwane achieved a very high position in government. From 24 April 1985 until 15 March 1989, he served as the 5th Prime Minister of Zambia. The Prime Minister helps the President lead the country and manage its daily affairs.
Leadership in UNIP
After his time as Prime Minister, Kebby Musokotwane continued to be a key figure in the UNIP. He became the secretary-general of the party. This role is like being the main organizer and manager for the political group.
In 1992, when President Kenneth Kaunda stepped down as the leader of the UNIP, Kebby Musokotwane was chosen to become the new President of the party. He had President Kaunda's support for this important role.
Kebby Musokotwane died on 11 February 1996.
