Clare Julia "Keeley" Hawes (born 10 February 1976) is a famous English actress. She is known for starring in many popular British television shows.

Hawes became well-known for playing spy Zoe Reynolds in the BBC series Spooks from 2002 to 2004. She later starred as DI Alex Drake in the science fiction police show Ashes to Ashes from 2008 to 2010.

She has also played important roles in other major dramas. These include playing DI Lindsay Denton in Line of Duty and the Home Secretary Julia Montague in the BBC One drama Bodyguard. A Home Secretary is a high-ranking government official in the United Kingdom.

Gamers might know her as the voice of the adventurer Lara Croft in several Tomb Raider video games. She has also appeared in movies like Death at a Funeral (2007) and Misbehaviour (2020).

Early Life and School

Clare Julia Hawes was born in London, England. She grew up in a part of London called Marylebone and is the youngest of four children. Her father was a taxi driver.

As a teenager, she went to the Sylvia Young Theatre School. There, she became friends with future singer Emma Bunton of the Spice Girls. To earn money, she had part-time jobs at a supermarket and a fast-food restaurant.

When she was 17, a modeling scout saw her on Oxford Street in London. She began modeling for magazines. This led to her first chance to audition for a movie. Hawes said her parents always supported her acting dreams.

Her big break came in 2002 when she was cast as Zoe Reynolds in the spy drama Spooks. The show was a huge hit and made her a household name in the UK.

From 2008 to 2010, she starred as Alex Drake in Ashes to Ashes. In the show, her character is a modern-day police officer who mysteriously wakes up in the 1980s. For this role, she won the Best UK Television Actress Award from Glamour magazine in 2008.

Hawes continued to star in some of Britain's biggest TV shows. From 2014 to 2016, she played DI Lindsay Denton in the police drama Line of Duty. Her performance was highly praised by critics.

In 2018, she played the powerful politician Julia Montague in the thriller Bodyguard. The show was extremely popular. From 2016 to 2019, she also played the mother, Louisa Durrell, in the fun family drama The Durrells.

Hawes married DJ Spencer McCallum in 2001, and they have a son together. They divorced in 2004.

In November 2004, she married actor Matthew Macfadyen. They had worked together on the show Spooks. They have a daughter and a son.
