Keep, California facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Keep was once a small community located in Plumas County, California. It is no longer an active town or village today. This type of place is called a "former settlement."

What Was Keep?

Keep was located about 14 kilometers (or 14 miles) west of a place called Spanish Ranch. Plumas County is in the northeastern part of California.

The name "Keep" came from two brothers, the Keep brothers. They had a trading post at this spot. A trading post was a place where people could buy and sell goods. It was often a central point for pioneers, miners, or settlers in a new area.

Keep even had its own post office for a short time. The post office was open from 1901 to 1902. This means it only operated for about one year. After that, the settlement likely became less active. Eventually, it was no longer a populated place.
