Keith Carlton Robertson (born in 1914, died in 1991) was an American author. He wrote exciting books for children and grown-ups. He was also a captain in the United States Navy.

Keith Robertson was born on May 9, 1914, in Dows, Iowa. He joined the Navy in 1931. He first worked as a radioman on a ship called a destroyer.
Later, he went to the United States Naval Academy. He earned a degree there. He once joked that he joined the Navy because he really disliked washing dishes! He said that at the Academy, midshipmen were "gentlemen" and did not have to wash dishes.
Military Service
Robertson served as a captain during World War II. He commanded a destroyer ship. He received five battle stars for his service. He later retired from the United States Navy Reserve as a captain.
His Family and Later Life
Keith Robertson was married to Elizabeth Woodburn Robertson. She was a dealer in rare books. They had four children together.
He passed away from cancer at his home in Hopewell, New Jersey. He was 77 years old when he died on September 23, 1991.

Keith Robertson started his writing career in 1948. His first book was called Ticktock and Jim. He wrote books for 40 years.
He also helped new writers. He was part of the Rutgers University Council on Children's Literature.
The Henry Reed Series
Keith Robertson is most famous for his five books about a character named Henry Reed. The first book in this series was Henry Reed, Inc., published in 1958.
This book won the William Allen White Children's Book Award in 1961. Another book in the series, Henry Reed's Baby-Sitting Service, also won this award. It also won the Pacific Northwest Library Association Young Readers' Choice Award in 1969.
The famous artist Robert McCloskey drew the pictures for the Henry Reed books.

Besides children's books, Keith Robertson also wrote mystery novels. He used a different name, called a pseudonym, for these books. His pseudonym was Carlton Keith. He wrote six murder mysteries under this name.
