Learning and Early Life
Kelley Robinson went to the University of Missouri-Columbia and finished in 2008. She studied two main subjects: how people live in groups (sociology) and women's and gender studies. While in college, she also worked as a mixed martial arts fighter and a bartender.
Her Work and Leadership
Starting Her Career
Robinson began her career in 2008. She worked as a political organizer for Barack Obama's campaign to become president. This means she helped gather support and organize events for the campaign.
Leading the Human Rights Campaign
In late 2022, Kelley Robinson became the president of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). This organization works for the rights of LGBTQ+ people. She is the first Black woman who is openly queer to lead this group.
Robinson has said she wants to focus on several important issues. These include the right to vote, health choices, LGBTQ+ rights, fair wages, and health care for everyone. She especially wants to listen to and help people who are struggling financially.
In an interview, Robinson mentioned that HRC planned to work towards passing the Respect for Marriage Act. This law helps protect marriage rights for all couples. In December 2022, Robinson spoke to government leaders about protecting LGBTQ+ people from hate and violence.
On December 29, 2024, Robinson shared that former President Jimmy Carter was a supporter of the gay and lesbian community in the United States.
Robinson is also a senior fellow at the Kettering Foundation. This is a research group in America that does not support any single political party.
