Kelli Young's Music Career
Starting with Popstars and Liberty X (2001–2007)
In 2001, Kelli Young tried out for a TV music show called Popstars. This show aimed to create a new music group. Kelli was one of the finalists.
While five other contestants formed the group Hear'Say, Kelli and four other finalists – Tony Lundon, Kevin Simm, Jessica Taylor, and Michelle Heaton – decided to form their own group. They called themselves Liberty X. They signed a big record deal and released three studio albums.
Liberty X had seven songs that reached the Top 10 in the UK between 2001 and 2005. Their biggest hit was "Just a Little", which became number one in May 2002. Other popular songs included "Thinking It Over", "Got to Have Your Love", "Song 4 Lovers", and "Holding on for You". These all reached the top 5 in the UK music charts.
The group sold over 3 million records around the world. In 2007, Liberty X decided to take a break. After the group split, Kelli appeared on an ITV Christmas TV special in 2007. She sang a cover of Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You". She also tried to get a solo music deal, but it didn't work out, so she took a break from her music career.
Liberty X Reunites (2013–Present)
In 2013, Kelli Young and the other members of Liberty X got back together for a TV show called The Big Reunion on ITV2. This show brought together several pop groups from their time. The groups worked through old issues and performed live at the London Hammersmith Apollo on February 26.
Because the reunion was so popular, Liberty X went on a full tour in 2013 and 2014. In 2017, Kelli Young, Jessica Taylor, and Michelle Heaton reformed Liberty X again. This time, they performed as a three-person girl group, without Tony and Kevin. Since then, they have continued to tour and perform at music festivals and Pride events.
